We all have ups and downs and most of us find it difficult to cope with it. I get so stressed when the deadline for my work is near; even when I have finished it and I have nothing to worry about. Sometimes when I am excited stress still kicks in. There are days that I have anxiety attacks, nightmares that I can’t even put myself to sleep.When that happens I start scrolling on social media. I noticed one thing that changed me a lot. Ever since I started working out I have been less stressed and I have been having a lot less anxiety than I used to. I can’t say that it’s all ok cause then I will be lying to myself and you.
When I sit down to start my work according to the Pomodoro Technique for the day I only get up to eat or go to the washroom. Even then,I do get stressed and anxious.Sometimes to the point that I can’t even continue on to what I should do next. That’s when I get up and take a walk in the garden for 5-10mins, sometimes my boyfriend also joins me in this process. If not, I just take my dog for a walk. This is something I discovered recently.When I take this small walk I do not carry any electronics with me, this calms me down a lot.
I know that different people have different personalities, some like to workout and some don’t and it’s ok as long as you take time for yourself whenever you feel stressed or anxious. Small things do make a big difference in everyone’s life. I feel good when I take a walk, it might be different for you, for example the tv show Friends in season 8 episode 7, Monica says that “Usually when I’m this anxious I clean” likewise everyone has their own way. Find your way to cope with stress and anxiety because no doctor can find it for you. But of course, that doesn’t mean that you should get into self destructive habits such as alcoholism, drugs etc.
I agree with you, Walks not only calm me down , but gives me an opportunity to sort my thoughts and plan ahead.
