Robata in Mövenpick hotel has a black and red interior colour scheme with ideally positioned lighting illuminating a smooth romantic vibe. The seating arrangement is conveniently spacious ideally securing privacy. When I searched about the meaning of \’Robata \’ it said that in Japanese cuisine, robatayaki (\”fireside-cooking\”), often shortened to robata, refers to a method of cooking, similar to barbecue in which items of food are cooked at varying speeds over hot charcoal. The staff was very helpful, friendly and efficient to the point where food was bought to us witin 15 mins – 20 mins.

Drinks
I got a passion fruit juice,The flavour was slightly acidic and musky. As soon as you start sipping , you can already feel the tad of crunch passion fruit seeds. (LKR 550)
Passion Fruit is technically a berry of Brazil origin. It is known to have calming properties and is used as a sleeping aid to calm nerves and relieve anxiety. So if you\’re feeling edgy , this might be a good drink to calm you down.
The Achcharu cocktail had an unexpected twist. It is a golden treat if you are an achcharu lover. It consists of tequila, infused raw mango, pineapple, ambarella, black pepper and chilli flakes. It had a perfect balance of the fruitiness and spiciness to a cocktail. (LKR990)
Starters
The hot butter cuttlefish was so crunchy and soft. It was well cooked and had the crunchiest capsicums.Well spiced with the contrasting spicy chilli paste and sweetness it was everything. My partner quoted \’The best hot butter cuttlefish I ever had was this.\’ (LKR690)
Well I was very disappointed the second time I visited the restaurant and when I ordered the hot butter cuttlefish, it wasn\’t the same as before. As it was very raw and hard to eat and did lack in flavour and the crunch.
Main Meals
Chicken Kung Pao Rice is a Steamed riced dish with wok fried crispy chicken thighs. A mix of kung pao sauce, capsicums, peanut and dried chilly. The flavours in this dish has a great kick to it. I shared this with my friend cause it was too big for me. (LKR950)
Nasi Goreng was light spiced and was not oily at all. This dish is served with chicken kebab, fried egg, veggie stew and some prawn crackers. The rice had both sea food and chicken mixed. I am a person who loves spicy food and wanted a little more spice in the rice. So I had to asked for some extra chilli paste. (LKR990)
Dessert
So the day I went for the review was my anniversary and when I was booking the table they asked me what the occasion was. To our surprise when we were going to order dessert they came with a cute cake which had Happy Anniversary written on it. It was such a delicious cake that we did not even need dessert.
I definitely recommend Robata. The experience is way different than any other restaurant. The food was amazing. I could not try everything in one day but I\’ll be going to Robata soon again to try out the other amazing food they have.
Woah !! Nicely written !!
Thanks
